If you are wondering if you can use a larger or different reflector in your
canister we will give you the formula to figure it out before purchasing. The
designations of R20, BR30, BR38, BR40 and ER30 have a specific meaning. All
incandescent bulbs have a formula, so it is easy to figure how wide they are.
The numbers in the above stated bulbs is the number of 1/8" in the width. So an
R20 has 20x1/8" so an R20 is 2-1/2" wide, a BR30 (30x1/8") is 3-3/4" wide, a
BR40 is (40x1/8") equals 5" across and a BR38 is (38x1/8") 4-3/4" wide. This
formula is the same for all incandescent bulbs. Whatever the number designation,
it signifies 1/8". So just measure your canister across and you will know if a
certain type of bulb will fit.
